The African Academy of Sciences Hosts Delegation from the Ghana High Commission
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) hosted a delegation from the Ghana High Commission at the Academy’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya on 18 February 2025. The delegation was led by His Excellency Mr Damptey Bediako Asare, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to Kenya and Permanent Representative of Ghana to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. He was accompanied by Mr William Anani-Abotsi, Deputy High Commissioner and Deputy Permanent Representative of Ghana to UNEP & UN-Habitat and Mrs. Rena Asare Danso, First Secretary/Political & Economic.
The Ghana High Commission in Nairobi is accredited to the Republic of Kenya for the maintenance and enhancement of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Kenya. The Commission participates in the numerous conferences and meetings held in Nairobi, in order to contribute to the establishment of international norms and standards, the formulation of regulations and decisions and resolutions germane to the objects and purposes of the United Nations and the international community.
AAS and the Ghana High Commission discussed the crucial role governments play in supporting scientists especially in light of the recent US foreign policy that has disrupted funding in Africa. Now is the opportune time for African governments to step up and support science and innovation on the continent and create conducive environments for research to thrive.
